Trini was a beloved local artist who was widely recognized for her talent, but more importantly, for her willingness to always share that talent with family, friends and her community. Please read on to Learn More...
Trinidad Aguirre-Armenta was a mother, grandmother, and lived to be a great grandmother. Trini was a hard worker and not only worked full-time, but often had a second job. She was known for her quick wit and her fun sense of humor. She built community everywhere she went fostering lifetime friendships and opportunities of growth to others. She shared her knowledge of cooking, life, and anything else she could.
Trinidad Armenta-Aguirre was a self-taught artist and musician. In her sixties she decided to attend community college and pursue a college degree. Trini learned to paint from books she borrowed from her public library at age 60 and never stopped. She serves an inspiration that it is never to late to try something new.
In 2003, Trini received the ELPAT Award for Outstanding Artist, for her volunteerism at elementary schools. Several times a year, Trini displayed her paintings to school children and told them to be proud of their own heritage and to share it with others so they can all learn from each other.
Trini has displayed her paintings at numerous events and even held a One-Woman Art Show in July 2009 that caught the attention of the Channel 9 News and was also featured on Lourdes Durate’s show, Adelante Chicago. A large mural that Trini painted on an old bed sheet, using an assortment of paints, including left over house paint, hangs permanently at the Gail Borden Public Library.
Trini continued to volunteer her time to teach seniors how to create art and crafts until her death. She led her life as an example of generosity and dedication to help others grow.
