Join us for the first annual Latinas in Law Enforcement Scholarship Fundraising Luncheon.

Our purpose is to raise scholarship funds for Latinas interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Although this is the first fundraising event, it isn’t the first year of the LILE Scholarship.

It was started back in 2016 and there have already been more than a dozen recipients of this scholarshp.

We are pleased to announce that Aldona Ruiz Castelan, a 2017 recipient of the LILE scholarship, has recently been hired as an officer for the Elgin Police Department!

Sponsorship opportunities are available. Please contact us if you are interested in sponsoring this event.

Special Video Remarks from Civil Rights Icon

Dolores Huerta

Dolores Clara Fernández Huerta is an iconic American labor leader and civil rights activist. Born April 10, 1930, she has been an activist for most of her 92-years and is the mother of 11 children. She continues to this day as the founder and president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation. Among her many awards are the Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights, the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom, and she was the first Latina to be inducted into the National Women’s History Hall of Fame. On September 13, 2013, she visited Elgin Community College. She so animated the audience, that the room broke out into sustained applause and shouts of "Sí, se puede," a phrase she coined in1972. She joins us again on September 22nd via video.
